Why Monday-born names are the hardest to choose

If you're naming a Monday-born child and it feels harder than other days, you're not imagining it. Monday is the only day whose kalakini set is (almost) all the vowels — while every other day forbids just one consonant group.

Because nearly every Thai name needs a vowel, avoiding the kalakini vowels eliminates a huge share of options. That's why many sites carry a dedicated 'Monday names with no forbidden vowels' section — and why this day frustrates parents the most.

Monday's kalakini letters

In the rule set the DekDuangDee app uses, Monday's kalakini letters are the vowels ะ า ิ ี ุ ู เ แ โ ใ ไ plus ฤ ฦ. Good Monday names therefore tend to be short, consonant-led, and careful to use only non-forbidden vowels.

Note: some manuals also include อ and sara-am ำ in Monday's kalakini — a genuine difference between schools. DekDuangDee follows the same set as its iOS app for consistency.
